Benjamin

Dr Ben, I was diagnosed compound heterozygous about a year ago. Since then, I have been taking several vitamins to help the homocysteine issues (methylfolate, B’s, TMG, lysine, proline, K2). But until now, I didn’t realize the impact on toxicity that should also be addressed as well.

The steps you and your family take include a lot of lifestyle changes (as compared to me). Can you elaborate on the impact of some of those? Specifically the following:
-Gluten Free
-Dairy Free
-Probiotics (is there a specific type?)

And how much does alcohol consumption affect us?

thanks,
Benjamin

I would also like to know the answers to Benjamin’s questions.

Thanks,
Lori

Katie

I would like to know too – I’m compound heterozygous and would be more than willing to make lifestyle changes to manage this.

Dr Ben

Benjamin, Lori and Katie –

Gluten free is critical – and we all should be gluten free. There are so many studies that demonstrate the need to eliminate it – and the reasons why are countless. The strongest reason is gluten triggers leaky gut syndrome which leads to autoimmune disease.

Dairy is just a food that is no longer healthy in the USA unless you get goat milk or A2 type milk from clean cows that are not pumped full of hormones/antibiotics.

Then add on the fact that dairy and gluten both contain excitotoxins which are definitely not welcomed in many with MTHFR (and COMT).

In terms of alcohol: this is a mitochondria toxin and those with MTHFR are already burdened by toxins. A little bit may be had of course – but overdoing it will backfire.

Probiotics are critical for many reasons – and books are written on this subject alone. Basics are that probiotics account for digestive health and a healthy digestive system is critical for overall health.

Probiotics provide immune support, decrease inflammation, provide nutrients, absorb and process toxins/chemicals and encourage healthy flora thereby preventing yeast and other pathogenic organisms.

Good probiotics are hard to come by which is why I made my own. The ProBiota line is what I personally use and recommend:
