Hello!

Thanks Dr. Ben for providing this amazing resource for information on MTHFR. I found out after 6 late miscarriages that I’m homozygous C677T. I’ve had three healthy sons between 2002-2004 and then started miscarrying each pregnancy after that. I’m just trying to take all the information in that I’m finding. I’ve been taking Thornes MTHFR-5 and now just two days ago after finishing the Thorne I started on Homocystex. I haven’t been taking any other vitamins except the Thorne and now the Homocystex. I’m planning on ordering the Multivitamin from Seeking Health this week.

So, to get to the question…. in searching for better health for the past 6 years I’ve tried many different kinds of detox diets. From a whole food cleanse, to a month long raw cleanse to the intro diet on the GAPS diet (Bone Broth, boiled meats and boiled veggies). I have tried most of these for at least three weeks. The side effects from detox diets are very uncomfortable for me. The main side effect is a all over very very itchy body rash. It looks like severe eczema all over my body. My whole life I’ve suffered from skin rashes but when I detox they become horrible. So, is there a diet you recommend for people with MTHFR? I’m gluten free and have been for 5 years and this helps with my skin rashes a bit.

In reading, if I’m understanding correctly, people with MTHFR do not detox well so it makes sense that doing a diet could be very hard. Mostly for detox I go to Bikram Yoga every other day. I’ve done this for the past two years and I notice that sweating in high heat definitely feels healthy both physically and mentally. I’d love your thoughts on food and how you can use food to help with healing the body.

Thanks again for all you do! So appreciated!

Hi Jill –

Rashes are a sign that your liver is overworked and that your histamine levels are elevated.

We are entering into an ideal time to detox.

Colonics, coffee enemas, saunas, castor oil packs, epsom salt baths are all fantastic.

There is no ‘one’ diet for everyone.

I do recommend everyone go on a gluten free and dairy free diet though due to all the issues with these foods. Soy is also a monster.

I’d also start on Active B12 5000 and also consider liver support.

Start out on 1/2 tablet of Active B12 5000 first thing in the morning. Those with high histamine or hypersensitivity typically are low in methyl donors.

To get a full handle on this, do consider scheduling a consult. We can get a lot covered in a short amount of time.

Please call 800-547-9812 to schedule. You may start the process online here.

Food is very powerful – and if foods are not industrialized, processed and contain the nutrients YOUR body needs, they are brilliant.

Thanks for the response! I will definitely call for a consult! I really appreciate your help!

So, I wonder your thoughts on raw milk directly from pastured cows. We get our milk from a small family production that just has two milking cows. Do you feel the same about that kind of dairy?

Looking forward to speaking with you!

Oh sorry, also…. would the Bikram yoga serve as a “sauna”?

Ok, sorry….. just thought of one more thing after ordering the Seek Health Multivitamin and also the B 12 5000 you recommended up above. Can I take all of these with the Homocystex that I’ve been taking for the past week? Sorry to ask multiple questions….

Jill, I think Dr Ben more/less answers your question about milk in this thread:

I looked and did not find an easy source for A2 milk in Northern California.

Jill –

There are some cows that produce A2 milk. I think Guernsey cows are one. Goat milk is also A2.

Bikram yoga can serve as sauna as long as you sweat like crazy – for 1 hour.

You may take the Optimal Multivitamin along with HomocysteX – just monitor your symptoms.

Also monitor your symptoms with the Active B12 5000. Introduce one of these at a time – one supplement every 3 days. Start low!

1. If I wasn’t deathly lilergac to seafood of all types, I’d try the sandwiches. Fish are incredibly healthy, especially oily fish. He’s right about that.2. All of the food choices he’s made have sound science behind them. Not the pseudo-science of the cholesterol-scare crowd, but eat real food science.3. I can’t do smoothies for breakfast. My dad made me do that for years, and I gag at the thought. Not Alton’s fault. It’s a shame he can’t eat what he used to cook so damn well now.
