Hi Dr Ben,

thank-you for the information you provide, I would be a bit lost without your website. I am a 41 year old man with very recently diagnosed homozygous C677T. My current symptoms are fluctuating fatigue and insomnia, though I was quite a bit sicker prior to starting a paleo diet 3 years ago with colitis, psoriasis and joint pain. Started taking 1 Methyl-Guard tablet a day about a week ago. Generally sleeping quite a bit better. But I am also experiencing side effects – within an hour of taking the tablet I experience an increase in brain fog and tiredness that lasts for several hours. Is this experience a normal part of the healing process as the body upregulates neurotransmitters, and activates long dormant detox pathways? Is this issue likely to pass as my body gets used to methylfolate?

Regards

David

David –

There are things that must be done prior to starting methylfolate.

I am glad you are taking this seriously and making some huge life changes – that’s great news.

I would greatly reduce the amount of Methyl Guard you are taking – such as 1/5th a tablet.

Then I highly recommend you get in some probiotics to heal your gut, completely avoid gluten and dairy, take some vitamin E, curcumin and don’t eat so much protein – reduce it by a bit – still eat it – but not as much.

You are right that you are stimulating detox pathways – but if you are and feeling this way – it is not good. It means you are simply mobilizing them and not eliminating them entirely.

A consult in your situation is recommended. I really need to get time to write a book – but not there yet.

If you’d like to schedule a consult, please call 800-547-9812 or begin the process here.

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this question, but i’m too fatigued to look through everything…i’m so sorry if this is isn’t right. I took my last methyl B-12 shot Sun. night and it burned horribly and I was in tears from it. ALL week i’ve had increased fatigue, to the point of having to crawl back into bed after my kids get on the bus for school. I’m not waking back up until 10:30/11 am and I still feel horrible. Extremely fatigued, headachey, glands in neck feel enlarged and tight and my pulse seems high, but I could be slightly dehydrated and that could explain that. Could this shot 4 nights ago have done this to me?? I suffer from mold toxicity and Lyme disease, so fatigue is normal. But, this is WAY worse than what i’m used to. I can’t function at all!

Dr Ben

Sarah –

Yes the methylcobalamin shot could have done that to you.

You may have triggered a detox reaction and mobilized heavy metals or mold toxins.

Please do tell your physician the symptoms you are having.

How you feeling now?

Hi Dr. Ben,

That horrible reaction lasted 3 days. I don’t have to go back to bed after I wake up, but i’m still not doing great. However, there are other factors going on, etc. I will tell my Dr. what happened, but I am frustrated because she knows nothing about this mutation and I have no idea where to start with all of this. I don’t even know if I have one copy or 2 with this mutation.
