Zahra

Hello Dr Ben
My name is Zahra after 3 miscarriages my Obygn did some test and found out that I have mthfr heterozygous and I tested positive for lupus anticoagulant (during pregnancy only) everything else came negative and my homocysteine level
Were normal. Since I had 3 miscarriages I had to see high risk Obygn and he put me on lovenox and baby aspirin until 36 weeks then heparin until I gave birth (39.5 weeks). I was also taking foltabs, prenatal, vitamin d 1000mg per day, b12 ( vitamin b12 deficiency) and progesterone (from week 4-15). 2 weeks after I started injecting myself with lovenox
My joints started to hurt specially my hands I was told it’s not lovenox but the progesterone. I was on progesterone only until 15 weeks. After I stopped progesterone my joints was hurting on/off but not like before. When I gave birth after 6 months my whole joints
was hurting really bad for couple hours I couldnt even hold my baby. I went to vist my family dr she did alot of blood work everything normal. She checked hormones, lupus, arthritis. She told me  may be I’m breastfeeding that could be the reason or virus.  I changed dr and my new Dr did all test again and X-ray everything normal vitamin D was 21 and she said normal is 35 so it’s ok but I can take vitamin d if I want. Then after few weeks I get lumps in my finger joint that comes and goes away. She send me to rheumotologist she told me my vitamin D  is low she repeated again and it was 27 but want to be 35 or up. She put me 50,000 of vitamin D for 4 month. She also repeated the blood work and everything else is normal. Now for the past 5 month my finger joints hurts specially early morning but they do hurt throughout the day. Some times I take ibuprofen but not daily. I have noticed both my index fingers and pinky swell
And some times other fingers too. I just don’t know what is going on with me or what to do. All blood work and X-ray is normal but why do I feel joint pain if everything is normal. My problem is mainly finger joints. Can you please give me some advice. My husband thinks lovenox is what caused my joints to hurt, since I was healthy and didn’t have blood clot and was taking it for almost 8 months.

I do take prenatal now and vitamin d. Is there natural herbals or vitamins that i can take for joint pain or inflammation. And if I do get pregnant again do you think I should take lovenox or baby aspirin?

Hi Zahara –

50,000 units of vitamin D is a lot. The level of 35 is not that bad – low yes – terrible – no. If you take that much vitamin D3, you are at risk of getting elevated blood calcium levels.

I also suspect you may be taking too much folic acid.

Breast feeding is an inflammatory process due to prolactin. You may have an autoimmune reaction going on.

Eliminating gluten and dairy is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I recommend you consider taking:
1) 1 to 2 capsules of Optimal Turmeric twice daily – AM and PM

2) 1/4 teaspoon of ProBiota 12 Powder after dinner.

3) 2 capsules of Optimal Krill oil daily with any meal of the day.

These recommendations work hard on reducing inflammation and calming your immune system.

In order to help you with such a history and questions, a consult is required in order to hear your story more properly and allow me time to digest it and provide thoughts and recommendations.

Please call 800-547-9812 to schedule a consult. Jatone, Meg or Brandon will set you up. You may also obtain your consult online here.

Look forward to working with you and getting you where you want to be!

Zahra –

It is best to aim for a vitamin D3 level of 45 or so. If you find you are supplementing with Vitamin D3 at high doses and not able to increase your levels, there may be issues such as:
- iron deficiency
- fat malabsorption
- poor vitamin D supplement
