Sheena

Hello Dr. Ben! =)

I was recently diagnosed with MTHFR and Lupus while trying to determine whether I carry the gene responsible for Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopedia (NAIT). They are still testing for the last mentioned and have taken both mine and my husbands blood to confirm. I had been trying to test for Lupus since my first son was born with a platelet count of 24,000 and I was told that I must have some sort of Autoimmune disease. I had also previously tested positive for a syphilis test (which I do not have but was told Lupus causes false positives), and my mother suffers from Lupus so it was no surprise to me but proved difficult to get a definitive result. Well, I’m pregnant again and seeing a specialist who seems to know what he’s doing but I’m still confused! So, I went in to get my results and this is what I was told:
I have MTHFR Single mutation A1298C.
Im HPA-1a Homozygous.
I have tested positive on the ANA test for Lupus a long with many Lupus related symptoms.

The Doctor told me to take one baby aspirin a day for MTHFR but didn’t seem too concerned about it. Well I guess my questions are:
Should I be concerned?
Do any of my diagnosis’s relate to one another?
Have you seen a case like this before? and what does it all mean?

Thank you in advance and Id be happy to answer any further questions!

Dr Ben

Sheena –

Your immune system is going nuts and must be brought back to health. I am most concerned about your Lupus to be honest.

I highly recommend scheduling a consult so I can provide you information which can get your immune system back on track.

If your immune system is hyperactive, this increases risk of miscarriage – not significantly – but it contributes to the risk.

A single A1298C MTHFR mutation is not that significant for miscarriage when it is alone without other mutations or other health problems. Combined with other mutations and not optimized health, it contributes to the risk.

Every person’s situation is slightly different from someone else’s. I never compare individuals to others as that would bias my recommendations.

Again – please schedule a consult and let’s get your immune system where it should be. Please call 800-547-9812 or obtain the consult online here.
