Can I pass this genetic mutation on to my children if my husband is negative for MTHFR and I’m postive for MTHFR C677T only and negative for A1298C.
Can my children be positive for MTHFR C677T & A1298C even if I’m not?
I’m really just starting to do research on this diagnosis, I was disgnosed a week ago and am feeling overwhelmed by info and want to save my children as much testing as possible since they are all under 6yrs old

Hi Jennifer –
Please read this article and look at the diagram there that I created.
It explains how the passing of genes works.
In a nutshell:
- If you do not have A1298C and neither does your husband, it is impossible for your children to get the A1298C MTHFR mutation.
- If you have 1 copy of the C677T MTHFR mutation, the likelihood of your children getting that is 25%.
- If you have 2 copies of the C677T MTHFR mutation, the likelihood of your children getting 1 copy of C677T MTHFR mutation is 100%.
- The likelihood of your children getting 2 copies of the C677T MTHFR mutation is 0%.
If your children have it, it is ok.
