I learned quite a bit, especially the part about how the parents pass on the mutation was fascinating to me.     Great show. You fielded some great questions too.

    I have a question about your statement that you don’t think it’s good to eat raw eggs because it depletes biotin. Dr. Mercola has gone back and forth between eating the whole egg raw and eating just the yolk raw because of concerns over biotin. As I understand it, eating just the yolk raw does not cause biotin issues. Do you think, if the egg comes from pastured chickens, that eating just the raw yolk is still not advised?

    I would also like to correct one story. It is not Rich Van K. at Phoenix Rising that experiences folate deficiency when he eats vegetables, it is Freddd. The bio information I’ve read about Rich said he was an engineer before retiring, and then he became involved with ME/CFS research to help out a friend.

    Freddd experienced years of debilitating illness, and through his own research figured out a protocol for recovery. Freddd has said he can eat small quantities of vegetables, but he has to greatly boost up his 5-MTHF and mB12 doses when he does so.

    There is a great short thread solely focused on Rich and Freddd theorizing about Freddd’s genetics. Rich thinks Freddd may have a MTHFS deficiency, something unidentified in anyone else so far.

      I’ve commented on this above – but you are right – egg white is a problem – more so than the yolk. I am not versed enough on the benefits of a raw egg yolk so cannot comment. I only know that eating raw eggs entirely is not good due to decreased biotin. If GAPS promotes only egg yolk – perhaps that is fine.

      I’ll take a look at that post – thanks for sharing – and thanks for correcting me about Freddd. Never heard of an MTHFS deficiency before -

    Thanks for the great podcast. A few things crossed my mind as you guys were talking…

    First, I’m pretty sure the GAPS diet advocates just raw egg yolks, not the whites. In case people are confused — it’s the whites that contain avidin.

    As far as folate goes, it was my understanding that chicken or duck liver would be the best source (provided you can get the liver from pastured birds). Checking, it looks like poultry liver is much higher in folate than ruminant liver.

      When I was reading on Dr Natasha’s website – she just mentioned raw eggs. Perhaps in her book she is more specific. You are right that it is the whites being an issue. I still find it odd to eat raw eggs yolks but I have not researched the benefits.

      Chicken or duck liver could be a good source of folate. I pulled my source from my textbook and did not check – which is a great site – good call there.

    Dr. Lynch, I had just been diagnosed with MTHFR, homozygous C677T less than 24 hours before your podcast. Dr. Anderson referenced your website during our appointment and I just happened to log on to your website at 9:04 yesterday morning. I listened with rapt attention for your two hour show as it was my introduction to the whole subject. I have since forwarded my medical report to one of my brothers who will have his daughter tested immediately! I have the labwork sheets for my three children and will be following up with them shortly as well. I just wanted to thank you for your extensive research and sharing it with the rest of us. I have entered a whole new world!

    methylcobalamin (methyl b12) is involved in the methylation cycle with folate..will cause muscle weakness i know personally,,,,also the vdr involved with vitamin d….vitamiin d with other cofactors calcium,vitamin k etc = bone,,,,,,,,
